The Unrefined Sequencing Format (or Unrefined Sound Format depending on the time of day) is a tracker-style music format developed in Python. It specializes in one-shot samples and phrase sampling, and includes the following features:
This format is unique in that it renders its files by doing all the maths manually, stepping through each byte and performing a ton of calculations! It started off as a simple one-shot sequencing format, and it rapidly evolved into a reasonably capable format over the course of just one week.
Unlike my other file formats (namely Best Image Format), I'm actually taking this one semi-seriously, as it's practically usable, and with enough effort, you can make some serious stuff with it! It is the very definition of a nerdy passion project.
This was developed in Python 3.10, so compatiblity with previous versions is unknown. I know for a fact that it won't work with Python 2, that's for sure! Because it's made in Python, it Should™ be cross-platform. It works perfectly on Windows 7 and 11, as well as Xubuntu (with some playback caveats), and hopefully other distros. If you test it on anything else, please report back!
Unrefined Sequencing Format is open-source - click here to view it on GitHub!
Current version: 1.2.0. Please report any bugs or suggestions to system10@samplersonacid.com, I'd love to hear them!
