"MYOOOZIC!!! If your interest is in synthesizers and other electronic music, projects, you need a 1973 catalogue" - lmnc
Yes, I produce music too, and it's about what you'd expect from me! I release under the pseudonym System10 and my stuff mainly consists of breakbeat-influenced songs with an eclectic selection of samples. I don't take myself seriously at all, and that applies to music too! I've been producing since 2016 and I like to think I've improved since then... it's only a hobby after all :)
As explained in my about page I have a natural ear for music, so when making stuff I literally just use my ear and go with my gut. I can't actually read music! I'm also lucky enough to have perfect pitch, but you probably couldn't tell by listening to my stuff :P
If you're a fan of tracker/chiptune-type stuff, check out this selection of silly little ditties!
SELECTION: "Bathtub" for its funny snares!
My first ever album released back in 2022, with plenty of Jungle and breakbeats throughout!
SELECTION: "No Listening" for its uplifting vibes!
My favourite thing I've ever released, period. All six tracks encompass my sound perfectly...
SELECTION: "Skaker" for its jam-packed energy!
I won't be doing any more digital releases; a series of events in 2024 caused my outlook on music to seriously change, and I really want to give back to the underground... so watch this space ;)
Here's a VCW exclusive! 13 jams done in GarageBand on my iPad, one after the other, at like 12am. These were all made a year or two ago and I didn't listen to any of them before starting; I forgot how they all went so I just opened them up and jammed to my heart's content.
Fun fact: 90% of these were made in bed! I used to use GarageBand as a scratchpad for ideas before I started bringing my laptop with me instead... also, the samples were recorded through my headphones by holding the microphone up against them. Very hi-fi biz :)
Every time I listen to "Manic" I remember that I actually have really high grades in music, and I just laugh.
If I've made something that I really like the sound of, but can't flesh out into a full song idea, I'll have fun muting and unmuting the different channels and recording the result! I've heard these enough times, so it's only right that I finally share them.
OpenMPT is the only software I use for producing music, and it's been that way since 2016 when I first discovered it. Long story short, someone listed it as a MIDI conversion tool (which it is not), but then I figured out its proper usage. The moment I realized I could drag my own sounds and sequence them, everything quite literally changed...
I'm lucky enough to have my own home studio, containing a few bits of hardware that I love using (an old Atari, Akai and TD-3 for that acid sound). I use my laptop all the time, especially for music, but hardware brings a certain sound and tactility that can't be replicated on a computer - and trust me, I've tried!
Hardware has been an interest of mine since 2017 but I've kept it under the covers, since at the end of the day the music is all that matters. Here's a few moments where I've just faffed about and had fun with an idea (with a song thrown in as a bonus, you lucky soul)
If you enjoy the acid jams, I released two EPs on Bandcamp dedicated to them: One Man Jam and One Man Jam 2 (the classic house jam is my personal favourite)
